[Food Review] Paul Bakery at Ngee Ann City & Hatched at Evans Road
Yes, non advert/ sponsored post.
I've resolved to do less of those and write more stuff about things I enjoy.
Well, I still enjoy all the beauty related stuff but I feel like my blog is way too saturated with them.
I love food and travelling too! Of course, the latter is expensive and thus I will not be able to do it often (I know, Japan post 3 is coming soon!)
Anyway, I decided to blog more about slices of my life like food, fashion, shopping, whatsoever.

As usual, translations (where applicable) will be below each picture.
The pictures with the names of the food we ordered are all the true colors taken with my Canon EOS 650D.
Those obviously dreamy looking ones have been edited.

Top: First stop - Paul Bakery
Bottom: The last post has been some time ago (excluding the random cups video post). Today's post will not have any of our pictures. Reason being, my skin is.... (cries) Oh wells~ Let's not talk about the depressing stuff! For now, shall we look at the pictures?

What did we eat?

Bottom: The Macaron is huge! (My iphone was placed beside for size comparison)

Top: Second place - Hatched
Bottom: Denise was driving that day! Therefore, we drove down to Hatced for our lunch~ I've seen many good reviews for this place but haven't had the chance to go up till then so I was really excited!

Top right: That cute thing is...
Bottom left: Salt and Pepper shakers!

What did we have for lunch?

Sorry for the abrupt end. Usually, the best way to end this outing should be a picture of us but like I said earlier in the post, we did not take any pictures of ourselves because my skin was really bad so I was in no mood to be vain and take selcas.

Food review time

Paul Bakery at Takashimaya Level 3
Firstly, the waiting time was pretty alright, around 15 minutes before we were shown to our seats (we were 3rd in line and arrived there around 1.30pm)

We were supposed to have our mains there as well but after almost 10 minutes of staring at the menu, we couldn't come to a decision at all; nothing seemed to be exceptionally appealing. Therefore, we decided to have desserts there and head somewhere else for our mains later. So there you have it, why our order of food course is the other way around.

As much as I wanted to love the place as it is actually a sister brand of Laduree, I could only manage a "not too bad" conclusion at best.
Macaron: The shell of the Le Grand Macaron was actually a tad bit hard for my liking but the filling was good though.
I will give it a 7/10
Strawberry Mille Feuille: It tasted quite average, nothing that made me feel wow-ed.
I will give it a 7/10 - not impressive but good nonetheless.
Dark Chocolate Tart: Awesomely chocolate-y. The crust was not too hard as well. A fair warning to sweets lovers; if you are not a big chocolate lover, this might be too much for you to take as you might find yourself getting a little sick towards the end of this treat.
I will give it a 8/10

Another thing I want to mention is the service; it was pretty bad. Firstly, the lady who took our orders pretty much "pulled" our menus away impatiently and caused the serviettes and utensils to be messed up for us to rearranged ourselves. Secondly, we waited over 20 minutes for our bill and still no news. After asking the staff again, they actually forgot which bill was ours and we had to reconfirm what we had with them because they had actually cleared our plates long ago so there was no way they could tell.

Hatched at Evans Road
I am going to give it away at the start - Love love love LOVE this place! When I first got there, I was quite worried that it might not turn out to be as good and end up just being yet another over-hyped place. We all know there are not too many places in Singapore catered to brunch lovers. Most Singaporeans compare brunch places with any other place that serves all day breakfast; it's like comparing a bread shop that sells macaron to ride the wave and a pastry shop that sells macarons because they are truly in love with the art of making such pastry. It is more than just "all day breakfast" for us brunch lovers! It has to be fulfilling enough to last our tummies till the night and yet be appetizing like breakfast to kick start our day.

I only had a bite of Peiting's and Denise's orders so I can't comment about theirs but my Burly Benedict was UH-MAZING.
Mouth-gasmic on my first bite. I really hate eating egg yolk but I cleared my plate in no time. The bacon bits below the poached egg added flavour to the egg and gave a much better texture. The English Muffin was very soft; I thought it was going to be like Mcdonald's English Muffin because of the appearance and was pretty bummed when I saw it on my plate but this was SO GOOD. It was really one bite after another and before I know it, everything was wiped clean off my plate and had me regretting why I didn't order two instead of just one. The side salad was lightly drizzled with the dressing and served as a good appetizer for me before I sank my teeth into the star of the dish. Not forgetting the side sauteed potato with mushroom sauce over it - this is just plain genius! I've always talked about how much I LOVE potatoes and chicken but I also LOVE mushrooms. Mushroom sauce over my favourite potatoes? I'm never leaving that place, ever
The Burly Benedict gets 9.5/10 from me!

Okay I'm running late for my tuition job.

Till next time!
